Een beetje thuiskomen - a little coming home

Leuk of niet, terug in Gasthuisberg is toch een beetje thuiskomen. Het doet je angstvallig afvragen wat nu weer het 'normale leven' is. Sofie voelt zich immers onmiddellijk in haar sas. De juf komt lesgeven aan bed (want met de chemo mag ze niet naar de school), turnsmurf Veerle voor de kine, witloofgratin maken in de knutselklas (en het hele bord leegeten - zie foto), visite bij de vriendin en terug knutselen aan een paddestoel. Ook mama en papa kunnen bijpraten met mama's en papa's van lotgenootjes.

Zoals je leest blijven de effecten van de chemo nog uit maar dat is normaal de eerste 36uur. Na gesprek met de oncoloog leren we ook dat dit de laatste keer cisplatinum is. Het schema blijft wel hetzelfde met 1x lange chemo en 2x kort maar die lange chemo wordt wel minder zwaar de volgende keren. Als tegenprestatie krijgen we dan wel maar 1 week recup tussen de lange en de 2 korte chemo kuren.

like it or not, being back in Gasthuisberg feels a little like coming home. It makes you questions what the 'real life' actually is. Sofie feels directly comfortable. The teacher comes teaching at her bed, kine Veerle shows up, making chicory gratin (and finishing her plate - see picture), visiting her girlfriend and handycrafting a mushroom. Mum and dad also get up to date with the mums and dads of fellow patients.

As you read we don't see the side effects from the chemo yet but that's normal the first 36 hours. After  talking to the oncologist we also learned that this is the last time she gets cisplatinum. The schedule stays the same with 1x long and 2x short chemo but the long chemo will be less heavy the next times. As counteract we will only have 1 week to recover instead of 2 weeks between the long and the short chemo.
